Who's this Pooran guy anyway?
Good question. I'm a fourth year Politics student, originally from Glasgow. At university, I've edited The Student, sat on the Students Association's Welfare and Societies Executive committees and helped out as a Freshers Week volunteer. I've also been secretary of the Baha'i society, and campaigned on issues like cuts to teacher training in Moray House.
As Student editor I got to talk to many students and societies about the issues that were bugging them. When the financial crisis hit in 2008 and we had to fight for the paper to stay afloat, I realised that I didn't want any other students to feel that pressure.
Things I’ve written about include our Annual General Meetings, the new funding deal for Scottish students and computer games. All of which could do with being improved, but I’m afraid there’s not much I can do about Army of Two.
Last year I helped to organise a debate between EUSA’s presidential candidates, as I want to make sure EUSA is as open and accountable as it possibly can be.
After a stint as EUSA’s Societies Treasurer I’ve already got a plan for reforming the system of funding societies to make it easier and fairer.
I want Edinburgh to get a reputation of having one of the best communities of student societies in the UK. I also want to build a university that’s more compassionate to its students.
